CAREERS for LIFE INTERNATIONAL

This is David's story about starting CAREERS for LIFE INTERNATIONAL.  When I was growing up in Kenya, I was subjected at an early age to the kind of trauma that is quite.. common here. Gangs drove my parents and six children from our home and taking what we could carry, came to the town of Ongata Rongai; about 12 miles southwest of Nairobi, where we resettled. With no money, we tried to make a fresh start. I was 12 then and the oldest. I did the best I could to bring in money. Not long after, My mother was told she had diabetes and without money, She succumbed from the disease and my father deserted us.

At 13 I had to find ways to feed myself and the siblings. A Children's Centre, finally helped by raising some funds for food and pay school fees. I worked at odd jobs such as pulling a donkey cart carrying clean water and selling to those who needed it. I achieved a B in my Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education. At that time, it was a very trying time with many days and nights of going to bed without food.

In 2003, I got a sponsorship to go to Wayne County Community College in USA, MI. now I am determined to give back to the community ; a chance to make a difference in their lives and pull themselves out of the enormous poverty that is everywhere in Kenya.I have started with a computer college in the town of Ongata Rongai, where marginalized youth would learn computer skills, a tool that would help them find a good job and keep it, but could not afford to pay the fees.

The immediate major and very pressing problem now is to keep this new school going. Teacher's salaries, rent, water and electricity bills etc. must be paid. I have registered an NGO here in Kenya, and CAREERS for LIFE INTERNATIONAL, This N.G.O, will give raise to Careers for Life Institute. I am sending out grant proposals for the institute to buy the land, build the school and maintain it. However, that is for the future and the computer college and the NGO must come first.I want register the NGO as a charity in the USA to enable donors to utilize the income tax deduction and to make official the organization in the U.S. For student sponsorship, one can support one student at only $100 for the whole program. This will enable us to pay the teachers, rent and bills etc. We will highly appreciate all your help.

Yours Truly
David
