Asian orphan children

On the 24th September 2008, DCCT brought 30 volunteers to the Wat Don Chan Orphanage in Northern Thailand, with the goal of educating and inspiring the 600 children who live there.

Volunteers included a MD Doctor, Chiropractor, LA Chef to the Stars, A Breakdancing teacher, LA Artist Emma Ferreira, four professional Photographers, English teachers, Music and artistic teachers from the UK, USA, Canada and Europe.

GOALS OF THE SEPTEMBER PROGRAM 1. To help promote the culture of the children (there are many differing cultures within the orphanage) 2. To help foster the children's passions 3. To promote (in the most positive way) the Children and centre to the locals 4. To create a cross- cultural link between Thailand and the USA. 5. To secure employment for the children in a bid to save them from homelessness/ the Sex Trade.

The program proved to be a huge success and thanks to Emma Ferreira www.emmaferreira.com who secured the funding, we were able to take ALL 600 children to the Elephant conservation center and a day trip to the Zoo! These children had never had a day trip before and many had never been outside the Temple. It was a huge success!

At the conclusion of the program we held a final show after teaching the children there chosen trades for two weeks, which ranged from Art, Cooking, English, Business, Computers to Music and Dance.

The children were taught crafts/ dance/ art and on the special event night professionals from the local community were invited to see what the children had produced! The event was a huge success and raised over 10,000 Baht for the Orphanage!

FACTS ABOUT THE TRIP: The volunteers all paid for there own flights and expenses, Most slept in bunk-beds in the orphanage with the children. The whole program was filmed and will premier in Los Angeles in Spring 2009.

Somaly Mam

They learned from Nicholas and Somaly more about Cambodia and about Somaly's amazing story. Somaly was part of the Sex Trafficking industry in Cambodia as a young child and after escaping and turning her life around she now run's shelters and educational programs for victims as well as rescue's children as young as six years old from the notorious and horrific Cambodian sex trade.

The Somaly Mam Foundation is a 501c3 nonprofit public charity working to end slavery. With the vision and leadership of world renowned Cambodian activist, Somaly Mam, the foundation strives to get to the root of human trafficking. The global vision will allow the activities currently in the United States and South East Asia to expand to other countries around the world.

Vision: A world where human trafficking does not exist.

Somaly is the winner of the CNN Hero's award as well as numerous accolades for her amazing work including Glamour Woman of the year.

Jemma has decided to dedicate her profits from her upcoming New York exhibition towards the education of the rescued girls via the Somaly Mam foundation.
