International Children’s Care (ICC) is a Christian based, non-profit organization whose mission it is to serve the needs of orphaned, abandoned and other at-risk children. ICC was formed by Christian laymen in 1978. At the beginning, it was organized to meet a need in Guatemala after a devastating earthquake left so many children homeless and orphaned. However, since there are many other areas of need in the world, ICC’s charter was made to fund and operate programs for homeless and needy children wherever the need exists.
From the beginning, the founders resolved that the ICC’s children’s programs would not be a typical orphanage, but a unique program designed to consider the mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical needs of the child. In other words, ICC would not simply provide food and shelter, but provide homes and families in an atmosphere that would bring love and security to these children.

Therefore, ICC started the family-style home plan. Instead of large numbers of children in one building, the children are placed in individual homes, located on acreage. Each home is founded on Christian principles. Native couples are chosen who serve as parents to a group of 10 to 12 children, forming a family. This avoids having an “institution” for these children. The long-term results are much more positive, enabling children to learn and relate normally to life.
Education is an important part of the ICC program. ICC operates elementary schools on the children’s village campus. The program is accommodated for the needs of the children. Because of a disadvantaged background, most of these children are behind in school. The teachers gear their programs specifically for orphaned children. Whenever possible, ICC locates near a secondary school. ICC provides education through high school, and when the young person shows interest and ability, through college or university.
The farm is an integral part of the ICC program. It provide work opportunities for the older children, it helps provide food, and it lessens the need for outside help. Also, the children learn manual skills, thus preparing each child to face life on his own someday.
ICC’s basic plan for each children’s village includes up to ten homes for children, an administration building, an elementary school, and a shop or industrial building.
ICC establishes and supports child care programs as circumstances permit in any country where there is a need and an opportunity to serve. Currently ICC is involved in children’s programs in the following countries
