INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND
The idea to help, destitute and disadvantaged children in a war torn Sierra Leone was conceived in 2003 and eventually launched on the 19th February 2005, by well meaningful Sierra Leoneans under the leadership of Rev. Jerry Makaya, founder and Executive Director.
Destiny Children organization is
a non-profit making advocacy instrument that develop and implement projects
that can help alleviate the sufferings of children in our beloved country,
In light of the above, we therefore see the need to come to the rescue of these children who had no hope and supposed to be the future leaders of our nation.
Rev. Jerry Makaya and the other members realized that if nothing is done to
address the dismal plight of these children, in the end they will become a
social treat to their communities and society.
It was against this background that they formed and established Destiny
Children Organization, known as DESCO for short.
COMPOSITION
DESCO is composed of children in
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
1. To help children know God, love God and serve God in their various communities through study group, seminars, workshops and counseling.
2. To help and protect the rights of children.
3. To provide scholarship for needy children.
4. To construct schools in different parts
in the country (
5. To construct buildings for orphans giving them shelter, food and education.
ONGOING ACTIVITIES IMPLEMENTED
Ø Weekly fellowship and counseling
Ø Thanksgiving service every last Sunday in February
Ø Commemoration of the day of the African Child – every June 16
Ø Distribution of school materials/kits (bags, shoes, pens etc) to needy children – every August and September.
Ø Commemoration of World Aids Day –every December 1
Ø Refreshing and presenting Christmas gifts to needy children - every December
Ø In September 2008 we started our first school (Destiny preparatory school).

Organize a National Children Prayer Program for
Ø Every June we organize a Gospel musical concert to help needy children with school materials.
FUNDING
DESCO is a non-profit making organization. It is funded by generous giving of some concern people. Also with proceeds from few income generating activities.

OPERATIONS
Presently, we operate within the
urban and rural areas,
PLANS FOR 2009 – 2015
To construct an orphanage.
Sharing of school kits/materials one hundred (100) needy children in August each year.
To provide scholarship for fifty (50) needy children.
To construct two (2) school buildings.
To locate foster parents for twenty five (25) needy children.
To support needy children (3yrs. – 14yrs.) with shoes and clothing each year.
ACHIEVEMENTS
DESCO has achieved in the stated official recognitions through partnership letters to international NGO’s in the Western Area and also registration certificate from the Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs.
